AS FOR ME
Vision always starts with a seed. Someone who plants a seed establishes a legacy. Everything begins with someone; and that someone could be you.
Ps Chris reminded us how C3 started 37 years ago with only 13 people at an Easter service. And look at the amazing legacy those 13 people started!
Ps Chris went on to share how after coming to Jesus in 1971, herself and Ps Phil started interceding for their family and friends. Even though there have been seasons of not seeing any fruit they persevered. Now they have seen many family members and friends come to know the Lord.
Ps Chris’s mum gave her life to Jesus when she was 80 and lived her last two years in relationship with Him. They never gave up praying, nor stopped believing that the Lord would have His way in their family members lives.
“When we pray coincidences happen and, when we don’t, they don’t.” Canon J John.
John 1:12 – being a Christian means being embraced by the family of God.
Irrespective of our upbringing, we can be embraced by the family of God and blessing is poured upon us. Through that foundation more people will come to know the Lord.
Ps Chris proceeded to share examples from the Bible of people whose one decision ultimately established significant legacies for generations to come:
- Mary – was only a young teenager when Gabriel announced she was to give birth to Jesus. When she responded with “Let it be according to your word” she ushered in the beginnings of Christianity.
- Rahab – hid the Israelite spies and for her faith she and her family were spared from the collapse of Jericho (Joshua 6:25). When we choose to follow the family of God we can’t conceive the destiny that awaits. Rahab soon married Salmon and gave birth to Boaz.
- Ruth – made a life-changing decision to follow her mother-in-law Naomi and her faith. She met Boaz, they married and gave birth to Jesse who was the father of David.
- David – was the youngest of Jesse’s sons. But it was he who God chose to use. He received the blessing from Samuel (who as a young boy, had said yes to God and came to be a significant prophet).
It takes time to see the legacy but it only takes one to make a stand. It doesn’t matter what your age is or station in life, you can be the one who starts the legacy.
It’s up to us to plant the stake in the ground: Joshua 24:15 – choose this day whom you shall serve and seal the blessing of the Lord over your family.
“The Lord bless you
and keep you;
the Lord make his face shine on you
and be gracious to you;
the Lord turn his face toward you
and give you peace.”
And verse 27 states “… and I will bless them.”
Today let’s choose to make the family of God our home and commit to praying for our family and friends who are not yet saved.
